9thandElm.com Review and Giveaway!

This is a Fashionista Event.  I was given a promotional item to review by 9thandElm.com to share my opinions about the website.  All opinions are my own.

US AND CANADA ONLY

As if running the bi-annual Fashionista huge events weren't enough, the wonderful ladies who run the Fashionista events have presented us with yet another giveaway opportunity thanks to 9thandElm.com There will be 3 Winners $400 Total Value $200 Gift certificate and 2 $100 Gift Certificates!

9thandElm.com was founded by Clay and Elly Bethune in the spring of 2013 with a mission to bring it's members fabulous fashion from the best handmade and independent designers. We realize it is extremely difficult to sort through and discover handmade fashion geared towards the "fashionista". Search no longer. Exclusive deals handpicked by our buyers will be delivered daily to our users inbox. This site is a multiple designer site.

Let me say how much I love 9thandElm.com I have found so many beautiful pieces, that I kept shopping even after I received my promotional items, I look forward to my daily email, and I am buying up some beautiful pieces to give as gifts this holiday season, and I know that they won't already have it and no one else will be giving it to them!

These are some of the items that I got for myself.  (Pics of me modeling are on the way, I am still having technical difficulties!)

Wooden Earrings from Designer Twilight Woods

Organic Cotton Racerback Tank

Eco Jersey Pirate Ship Tank

I have to say that I love the quality of these items! I wore the pirate ship tank to my friends sons pirate themed birthday party and stayed nice and cool I was able to run and play and didn't have to worry about the fit, it maintained it's shape and was simply fantastic.

The high low tank, is so fun and trendy, I love that it is all organic, and so so soft. I feel pretty when I wear it!

The earrings have to be one of my favorite items, they are so well made, and nice simple and cute, they can go with just about any outfit and add a bit of nautical charm, (which I must always have.) Plus they look super cute with my pirate earrings I got in Turkey.)

Shipping was very quick, and customer service was very friendly and helpful. The website is very well laid out, and is very simple to use.

You can check them out on Facebook and Twitter but I like to stalk them on Pinterest!

By entering this event, please note that you are agreeing to be subscribed to 9thandElm.com newsletter.

9-11-2013

Over a decade later, this image still brings out strong emotions in me. I still remember what I was doing, and how I felt that day as I found out what happened.

My prayers go out to the friends and families of the 2,976 American people who lost their lives that day. We will always remember you.

My heart also goes out to the people in countries that experience this type of loss every day.

You will never be forgotten.

Back.

To my followers, I am so sorry I have been gone, with nary a word to you.

Things have been tough, some of them I am not ready to share, but some of them I will.

First off, we moved to a different town. (Next year I am hoping for Tennessee)

Another thing that kept me away is that my family moved to Tennessee. So I spent every waking hour with her for two weeks helping her move on very short notice so that my Dad could go work for a very cool and exciting new company. Two weeks after she moved, I went down to visit her for a week, to help her get settled down there. (On the way home we had car trouble which was a ton of fun too!)

In addition to that, we have had some trouble on my husbands side. His brother is very ill, I was supposed to go down a week after my mother moved, but my brother in law Joe, had a brain hemorrhage. Two actually. He has lupus which is probably the cause, and it is causing all sorts of complications. At first they didn't think he was going to make it three days, thinking that he would be brain dead, but he is holding on. He was transferred to the hospital in Madison where they are doing some aggressive treatments for his kidney failure and lupus, however he now has three different infections including meningitis. So we have also been very tied up with that. Please keep him in your prayers, as well as the rest of our family. He has four wonderful children who need their father. My mother in law has her own health problems and she has been so amazing and strong through all of this, please keep her in your thoughts as well.

I will resume my normal blogging schedule, and already have some fun stuff planned for us, including everyone's favorite- giveaways! I have some reviews scheduled for lifeway keifer and babydoo diapers, I am also going to talk more about training for my mudrun, and my newly inspired fashion life! I am really looking forward to it!

P.S. I forgot to mention, I also just signed up and start classes for my bachelors degree tomorrow! Wish me luck!

Working out!

So, I need some motivation to work out. In a perfect world knowing that I would be healthy and fit would be enough. But I'll be honest, it isn't really.

So instead I joined a weight loss competition! What? Yep totally. Now I have money and competition as my motivators! OOhhh yeah!

I suffer from what I call "Little Sister Syndrome" which is being super competitive and needing to be better than someone else, so this should be perfect for me. I mean getting healthy and fit is a great motivator all by its self, I mean at least it should be, but to be honest the money is seriously going to help!

I'm gonna be serious with you here. I won't post my weight, but I will keep you all abreast of my loss and my journey. I know weigh loss is a huge topic so maybe we will find some stuff that works!

Being accountable.

We all need to be accountable for the things in our life. We have been going through a tough transition in our lives and it is really hard to deal with. I have been dealing with a lot and I have had depression. With this depression I have let myself go and when I stepped on the scale the other day I almost cried. I have never been this heavy in my life. But crying doesn't fix things and I remembered the old quote (that I can't source sorry) "You don't drown by falling in water, you drown by staying there." It made me thing. Crying is not going to fix this problem, only I can fix this problem.
Diet and exercise baby.

It isn't going to be easy, and I am going to need motivation, but I am going to do it. I do not want to be this overweight unhappy person. My goal is not to be stick thin, my goal is to be healthy- which is something that I am not at this weight.

I am joining a weightloss group that charges by the pound if I loose weight, and the winner gets a pot of money at the end (how is that for added motivation?) Compition and money, I think I've got this. I am also making myself accountable to my readers. I know I have posted about weight loss before, and now I am getting serious about it. My diet is decent but it is by no means perfect and after our extra long winter this year I am not sure if I remember what exercise is like outside of the house, but I just got a new bike trailer for the little one and we are going to hit the roads. We have also been taking a lot of walks.

One thing that is esential to me is music. What are some of your favorite workout tunes? Is there a special one that you use to get yourself over that "hump" when you start to get tired?

Real Mom

I am a real mom, although sometimes I have delusions of being a super mom, but lets face it. I don't vaccum as often as I should, the dishes have a tendency to pile up on the counters, the diapers don't always get washed in a timely manner, and let's not even start on the mounds of laundry... I have let my child make giant messes, and I have left the flour out on the counter while I went to the restroom.

Don't get mad, get the camera!

I want to be a super mom, I do, some days, when I find the energy. Other days, I make my kid do the chores:

The other day, I needed to get some stuff done, (really I wanted some "me time" but I still got the dishes washed so it totally counts.) I needed to invent a way to keep my son occupied nothing was working, he didn't want to read or play with his trains, marbles aren't something he can do by himself, TV isn't something we let him watch a lot of, but I tired it, and it failed. It was a "mommy day" and Mommy was tired. (Moving sucks.)

Then it hit me, peanuts. He loves to jump into and spread around the boxes of packing peanuts that I get from my tea shipments. They are cool eco-friendly corn starch peanuts and I have a few bags of them that I had saved for moving day. This day however they held a higher purpose. They were going to give me time. I just needed a way for them not to be so messy - the bathtub.

We filled up the bathtub, stripped him down to a diaper, gave him a bucket and shovel, and Mommy time was born!

Lazy mom turns into SUPER MOM (at least a little?)!

He stayed in the tub for 3 whole hours I did the dishes, read a book, painted my nails, and even watched an entire HALF HOUR TV show (while constantly checking on him of course.)

It was great, he had a blast, and I felt accomplished.

Where have you been? Oh wait, it was me that was gone.

I am so sorry I have been gone, it has been a hectic couple of weeks, there was a last minute move, some other craziness and a lack of internet because AT&T took forever to get their stuff toghether to figure out what the problem was (starting with them trying to service our new house from over a mile away on an island instead of from 3 blocks away.) The new house is still a disaster with half of our stuff not being here, and no electric outlets in half of the house, but we have our kitchen supplies, our beds, the water no longer smells like sulfur and now our internet so what else do we need? Some of the terrible things that have happened in the last few weeks include the illness of my husbands grandfather.

He has cancer, and it is getting worse, we were able to go and visit him, and we got this lovely picture of him my husband and our son. I wish my Father-in-Law had been there too, it would have been great to have all four generations in a picture.

Our family is going through a lot right now, and if I could be so bold, I would appreciate your prayers, positive thoughts, or whatever else you can spare. :)

Red and Pink?

The red and pink is flooding FaceBook. Wondering what it is?

It's the “Red Equals Sign” which is a symbol for marriage equality. Today is the first day of Supreme Court oral arguments over the constitutionality of California ballot initiative Proposition 8. Passed during the 2008 elections, Prop 8 defines recognized marriage in California as only valid between a man and a woman.
The Red Equals Sign has been championed by the Human Rights Campaign, a group that works for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equal rights. This campaign urges people to wear red today and has organized for people to stand outside of the U.S. Supreme Court while the ballot initiative is being debated inside.  If you want to show your support for marriage equality — make your profile image red and go to www.hrc.org/StandForMarriage for more ways to get involved!
Listening to the radio yesterday there have been people standing in line to hear these arguments for over a week. So many people could not be there and for those that wish to show their suport this is one way.
No matter if you are for or oppose equality know that I respect your decision, and please keep it civil.

Lean on me...

I was thinking today about being a parent, and how having a happy little one playing around my legs is amazing and wonderful, and it reminded me of a story back in December about a dad who was left home alone with his infant twins and two year old. All three kids started crying and he couldn't get a-hold of his wife. He was overwhelmed and he didn't know what to do. He called the police and asked for help. Now some people were mocking him for being unable to parent his children, calling the situation funny or the dad stupid. But I applaud him.

So many parents feel like they are in this alone, there are judgmental friends and family, and a sense of having to be perfect all the time. Stress like this is what leads to kids getting hurt, parents that are overwhelmed and feeling like they can't ask for help. I am so lucky that I have an amazing support system, but there are many people out there that don't.

I have a favor to ask: Lets reach out to other parents instead of trying to impress them with all of your amazing stories of how awesome you are at parenting, and letting them know that you never had a problem with an issue they are experiencing, be open and honest. Let them know of a time you struggled and remind them that we are all in this together, maybe the next time they are at a breaking point they won't feel so alone, and they will now they won't be judged if they came to you with the problem, and maybe you could help them, or just commiserate and remind them that it gets better.

I am just hoping that we could live in a better community of people, where there is no competitive parenting, just people that help each other. (Though to be honest, I don't think I will ever stop judging those parents that put their kids in ovens or washing machines, no matter hard I try. No one is perfect.)

Can you help?

I love being a mother, it is one of the most amazing journeys I have ever been on. I feel that as a community parents need support in their endeavors  people to listen and to lean on, and people to encourage them on their journey. Many people I know feel the same, but there is one woman in particular that I want to support today, she needs help with her adoption. A babywearing group I am involved in has helped her make a video for a contest to win an Obi Mama wrap, if we win, it will be raffled off and the money will go to helping her pay her adoption fees. She has been working so hard for this for the past two years, sewing and selling things to help make her family whole. If you could take a moment, watch the video, and leave a comment on youtube, it would be so helpful.

Thank you for taking the time.

Being Mom

I didn't think I had a post for today, things have been tough and I've been struggling to accomplish everything I want to in a day. My husband and I are going to a marriage retreat this weekend and I am hoping it helps. I just have such a high stress level these days. We are supposed to being a treat for the community snack table so I decided to make truffles (don't worry these are super simple and when I get them done and pictures taken I will post the recipe.) Well I am in the kitchen cooking and Connor loves to play in the kitchen I think it's all the natural light and the fact that mom is in here a lot. So, I'm chopping up chocolate to make truffles and he asks for a piece, I give him one and he comes back to ask for more, I tell him that he's had enough, so he sits on the floor and starts to cry. I remind him that he doesn't get anything if he cries, so he stops crying, stands up, opens the dishwasher and gets out one of his snack plates, puts it down on the counter and says "bite please." How can I say no to that? I added some fruit to the plate with the piece of chocolate and he finishes it up then puts his plate back in the dishwasher. Then he lays down on the floor and starts to "read" a book, while making his firefighter lady dance on it. Just when I think I can't love him anymore, I do. Some days I swear there is nothing better in this world than being a mom.

This picture is a little old, but I love it. He's such a happy kid, I am so lucky to be his mom.

Wordless Wednesday- Boys

Right after we brought Connor home from the hospital, Gunther wanted nothing to do with him, unless it sounded like something might be wrong, then he was right there to check on him. I love both my boys.

Not So Wordless Wednesday - The Laptop

I just wanted to share with you pictures of my screen. The black keeps spreading. My friend yesterday thought I had some artistic wallpaper on it, nope, just what happens when it gets smashed.

On the bright side my new laptop will be here today and I can get back to some serious work! I am really excited about the steps the blog will be taking this year!

A pep talk.

So I am running a bit behind with everything I wanted to do, because everything I have wanted to do was on my laptop. My laptop has been smashed. We can thank the newly two year old for that. Destructive tendencies are perfectly normal for a 2 year old, so I guess my kid is normal- however that also means my laptop is dead. It took him all of 2.5 seconds. I still have some great posts coming up for you- including the awesome birthday party, what I like to call our fun bag, more organizational tips going through my home binder, more reviews (and giveaways) diaper and "crunchy mom" related for sure, and some fun 'Fashion Friday" posts gearing up for the Spring Fashionista event! Yay! In the meantime, I needed a pep talk, and I thought maybe some of you could too, so here's kid president with a much needed pep talk for all of us. Enjoy! P.S. Leave a comment with something you would like to see coming up on the blog!
